چکیده

Abstract During the ground operation of aircraft, the interaction between the propulsor-induced flow field and the ground may lead to the generation of ground vortices. Utilizing numerical approaches, the source of vorticity entering ground vortices is investigated. The results show that the production of wall-parallel components of vorticity has a strong contribution from the wall-parallel components of the pressure gradient on the wall, which is generated by the action of the propulsor. This mechanism is a supplementation for the vorticity transported from the far-field boundary layer, which has been assumed the main vorticity source in a number of previous publications. Furthermore, the quantitative prediction of the occurrence of ground vortices is performed from the numerical results. As the distance of the propeller form the ground decreases, and as the thrust of the propeller increases, ground vortices are generated from the ground and enter the propeller. In addition, the vortices which exist near the ground but does not enter the propeller plane are observed and visualized by three-dimensional data. Graphical abstract

Understanding Crashback in Marine Propellers Using an Unsteady Actuator Disk Model

An unsteady actuator disk model is constructed in order to understand unsteadiness in crashback operation of a marine propeller as a competition between two flows of opposite direction: reversed flow through the propeller and the ambient flow due to motion of the vessel. The large eddy simulation methodology is applied to predict the flow corresponding to forward and crashback modes of operatio...

Analysis of propeller-induced ground vortices by particle image velocimetry

Abstract The interaction between a propeller and its self-induced vortices originating on the ground is investigated in a scaled experiment. The velocity distribution in the flow field in two different planes containing the self-induced vortices is measured by particle image velocimetry (PIV). These planes are a wall-parallel plane in close proximity to the ground and a wall-normal plane just u...

Assessment of a Propeller Model Embedded on a Panel Method Code for

An inviscid actuator disk model is embedded in a three-dimensional low-order panel method code for inviscid incompressible flow in order to study the propeller effects on an arbitrary body. The actuator disk model predicts the time–averaged induced velocities in the slipstream of a propeller with an arbitrary radial distribution of load. The model is constructed by superposition of four vortici...

Numerical and Neural Network Modeling and control of an Aircraft Propeller

In this paper, parametric and numerical model of the DC motor, connected to aircraft propellers are extracted. This model is required for controlling trust and velocity of the propellers, and consequently, an aircraft. As a result, both of torque and speed of the propeller can be controlled simultaneously which increases the kinematic and kinetic performance of the aircraft. Parametric model of...
